The Way I Roll
And so...it rains.
It rains and it rains.
**
I've noticed that since I started writing books ( almost 6 years ago- GAH) that I approach life a little differently.
I eavesdrop on people, not just because I'm snoopy, which perhaps I am a little, but more because I'm listening for good story fodder. Especially teens. I listen to them talk and I try to pick up on the new slang or figure out what they're interested in. The other day I was at the Y and I heard a girl in the change room tell her friend, "it's just the way I roll."
Yup. Dialogue in current book. Not rocket science but still.....
A couple of years ago I saw a kid at the Y wearing a shirt that said "Team Stallion". It cracked me up and is worn by a kid in, Waiting To Score.
Yesterday I was at school picking up Superson and a group of mom's were standing near by talking about mother in laws. They had some really funny moments. They might make it into books.
My fave was one MIL who was staying with the family for a couple of weeks. She had to go away for a weekend, and when she walked back in the house, she looked at her daughter in law and exclaimed really loud,
"Oh! You vacuumed." Like it was a miracle!
Cracked me up. It's all fodder for books now.
It's just the way I roll.

Rain and a Tuesday Teaser
It has been RAINING for weeks. Not the norm in my end of the world. My flowers are even wilting. Enough, they cry. Enough. Give us some sun. Gasp. Gasp.
Random thought - What do bees do when it rains all the time?
*** LOSING IT TEASER
“What the hell is she looking at you like that for?" Alan Baker walked up beside me, his face scrunched up with disgust. “I try to get that bitch to sleep with me all the time and she won’t give me the time of day and yet there she is undressing you with her eyes.” He looked me up and down. “That whole, poor boy, tough guy thing really works for you with the ladies.”
I shook my head. Alan was really stupid. He knew my reputation. I should crack his head against the wall for that comment.“Where’d you get that shirt?” he demanded, studying me with undisguised curiosity.
I looked down at the authentic old bowling shirt I’d picked up at Value Village for a couple of bucks. “Lucky Lou” was stitched into the material right over my heart. I rock the secondhand store hipster thing. Other kids think I’m eccentric but the truth is I can’t afford expensive stuff.
“The Gap,” I told him and turned and went the other way. “Two hundred bucks. On sale.”
“Asshole,” he shouted.
I raised my middle finger to him as I walked away.

Would you rather....
Run 10 km flat ground OR
Bike 25 km with hills. Big ones.
Eat a juicy BBQ steak
Or a piece of birthday cake. From Safeway
Go to school or your office in your bathing suit
Give a speech to 500 people?
Well?

Sprinting in August
Oops I did it again. I signed up for the Strathmore Sprint Triathlon.

God. Why did I do this to myself??
Ha ha. Kidding sort of. I have to get back to swimming because well, I haven't been. Or running. Or biking.
I guess it's time to start training.
